Bid at live.noble.com.au
PAEONIA, kingdom of Patraos, (c.340-315 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (12.81 grams), obv. head of Apollo to r., with laureate, dotted border, rev. horseman spearing fallen enemy, who holds spear and shield, trident behind, around **PA[T] ROU, (Paeonian Hoard 110 same dies, S.1520). Obverse off centre, otherwise nearly extremely fine and a very rare type.
The Sotheby sale of the Paeonian hoard (London, 16th April, 1969, lot 110), had only one example of this type and it came from the same dies. This is an important type of much better style and condition than usual.
Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
