GROUP OF FIVE TO SERVED IN RN AND RAN: 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Burma Star; War Medal 1939-45; Naval General Service Medal 1909-62 (EIIR D:G:BR:OMN), - clasp - Malaya. First four medals unnamed, D/JX. 371366 G.E.A.Ward. Ldg Smn. R.N. on last medal. The named medal impressed. No ribbon on last medal, the first four medals toned very fine, the last medal a replacement with some contact marks, otherwise extremely fine.

Entitled to Korea Medal 1950-53 and United Nations Korea Medal 1950-53.
Together with Officer's bullion badge (QC) with hat band and b&w photo of Sub-Lt Garth Ward in uniform and wearing medal ribands.

Garth Ernest Alfred Ward, born 29Aug1927 at Plymouth, Devonshire, England; Enl.09Sep1942 in Royal Navy as Boy 2; served in Africa, Burma and post war in Malaya; Disch.26Dec1951 as Acting Petty Officer; Enl.27Dec1951 in Australia in RAN; served in Korea on HMAS Sydney as Acting Petty Officer 27Dec1951 to 22Feb1952; served on HMAS Bataan, Quadrant and Platypus; on loan to Royal Navy for service and training 13Apr1956; completed Diving Clearance Course and PO Commissioned Gunner 01Dec1956; to S/Lt 01Jan1957; awarded C-in-C Commendation for gallant conduct in rescue 07Oct1958 of crashed American aircraft off Turkish coast; loan to Royal Navy terminated 23Mar1959; served on HMAS Warramunga, Voyager and Derwent; to Lt 26Sep1963; Disch.04Jan1967 as P.U.N.S. (Permanently Unfit for Naval Service) and then lived at Sylvania, Sydney, NSW; Died 11Apr2013 in Sydney and the funeral service was held at the South Chapel, Woronora Crematorium, Sutherland on 18Apr2013.
